You may have the universe if I may have Italy.
*Giuseppe Verdi*
I am more or less done with school. And by that I mean I’m done with studio. Yesterday, I presented my final project. I was the first to present and when I finished Rodiek drew a line threw my name on the chalkboard and someone in my studio yelled “Yay you graduate!” At that moment I realized that I would never spend another late night in Langford, taking rediculous pictures at four am with all the other night owls. I would never see people sleeping on the nasty couch we got from Goodwill and used to create “Langford Lounge” in the corner of our studio. I would never make another last minute 11:50pm Starbucks run with three other people, but buy coffee for ten. It was over.
So I came home and laid around in bed for the majority of the afternoon. It was not completely unproductive though – I started researching Espresso machines for my new apartment. This turned into a complete espresso research session. I was looking into receipes for different drinks to make with espresso, but I didn’t feel like I was really finding truly Italian receipes. The Caffe Freddo receipe said to make espresso, let it cool for an hour, then put it in the fridge and when ready, serve on ice. That’s definitely the American way to do it. In Italy, every afternoon I would watch the barista make two shots of espresso, pour them over ice and syrup, shake them until the ice melted, then pour it into a chilled glass. It was delicious.
Researching all the espresso information just fueled my desire to be back in Italy. So I realized that once I have my new apartment and I was living alone with full control over my space, I’ll be able to make it as “Italian” as possible…with my own style of course
